September 3, 2026
Scroll through any Lake Nona group chat this week and it looks like the whole neighborhood is opening at once. Target signage is up. HomeSense has been ringing up customers for months. Somebody's cousin swears Cañonita is "basically done." Oktoberfest banners are already going up at Town Center. It reads like one big ribbon-cutting.
It isn't. Lake Nona this fall is actually two calendars layered on top of each other, and they move at completely different speeds. One is the weekly rhythm that's been running for years and doesn't care what's under construction three roundabouts away. The other is a retail buildout landing in pieces through the rest of the year, and the piece everyone's most excited about is scheduled to be the last one to show up.
Knowing which calendar you're looking at is the difference between planning a good week and waiting on something that isn't close.
Before Target, before Lake Nona West, before any of the 2026 headlines, Lake Nona already had a working weekly schedule built around Town Center and Dockside. It hasn't paused for construction and it isn't waiting on anyone's grand opening.
When | What's Happening | Where |
|---|---|---|
Tuesdays | Rollin' Food Truck Rally | Town Center |
First and third Wednesdays, 5-8 PM | Farmers Market | Dockside |
Fridays and Saturdays | Art After Dark, hosted by Orlando Local Makers | Town Center |
Sundays | Lakeside Market | Waterside |
Boxi Park sits at the center of most of this. It's a 30,000-square-foot, dog-friendly outdoor venue just south of SR 417 on Lake Nona Boulevard, with beach volleyball courts and a live entertainment stage built into the layout. None of that changes based on how many storefronts are open a few miles west.
Lake Nona West is the other calendar, and it's the one generating the "is it open yet" texts. The project is 405,000 square feet on 54 acres along Lake Nona Boulevard, east of Boggy Creek Road, and Tavistock has been rolling it out in stages rather than all at once.
The order tells you something. Smaller, simpler buildouts have gone first:
That's not a random sequence. Big-box anchors and inline retail spaces with straightforward buildouts move fast. A full-service restaurant with a $4.5 million interior investment, custom kitchen infrastructure, and a brand reputation to protect takes longer to get right. So the thing residents keep asking about, a proper sit-down dinner, is arriving after nearly everything else on the list.
There's a similar pattern next door. AdventHealth's new 10-story hospital at 10999 Narcoossee Road is targeting a November 2026 opening on a 25-acre campus, starting with 80 beds and room to expand to 320. It's a genuinely significant addition to Medical City, including an incisionless surgical suite using focused-energy treatment for tumors and Parkinson's tremors. But like Cañonita, it's a late-2026 arrival, not a summer one. The pieces that require the most specialized construction consistently land at the back of the line.
Tavistock has also been building around the traffic this is creating. Florida Department of Transportation counts put average daily traffic on Narcoossee Road, between SR 528 and the Osceola County line, at 38,000 vehicles as of 2022, and that was before this year's wave of openings. In response, crews added two roundabouts along Lake Nona Boulevard in front of the new center, and Tavistock is offering Beep autonomous shuttle rides as an alternative to driving in for a quick errand. Whether that's enough remains to be seen, but it's a real acknowledgment that the retail rollout and the traffic rollout are tied together.
The project's public art component is following its own separate schedule too, and it's worth knowing about even if murals aren't why you're reading this. Chalk & Brush, a Miami-based studio founded by artist Cinthia "Cynno" Santos, is installing 30 murals across the buildings and walkways at Lake Nona West, its largest program to date, drawing on native flora and wildlife. There's also a 20-stall Level 3 EV charging hub powered by Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, capable of adding a real charge in about 20 minutes for compatible vehicles, which is a genuinely useful detail if you drive electric and have been routing around the area to charge elsewhere.
If you're trying to build a fall week around what's real right now rather than what's still six weeks out, here's how it actually breaks down.
The weekly stuff runs regardless. Tuesday food trucks, the Wednesday farmers market at Dockside, Friday and Saturday Art After Dark, Sunday's lakeside market, all of it happens on schedule whether or not another storefront has opened at Lake Nona West that week.
Layered on top of that weekly base, fall adds its own one-time fixtures. The Lake Nona Sprint Triathlon just wrapped on August 23, with the swim leg starting at Lake Nona Adventure Park before the bike and run legs took over. Next up is Oktoberfest at Town Center, with German-inspired food, beer from Park Pizza & Brewing Co., a stein-hoisting competition, and live music from Slickwood. October brings Graveyard Smash, the neighborhood's Halloween-season tradition.
What's still six to twelve weeks out, even though it feels imminent because the signage is already up, is the destination-level stuff. Cañonita and the AdventHealth hospital are both pointed at late 2026, and neither is a "check back next week" situation.
The honest read is that Lake Nona's fall doesn't need Lake Nona West to be full for the season to feel complete. The weekly rhythm was already doing that work. What's arriving in phases is additive, and it's worth being patient about, especially the parts that take real construction time to get right.
