Lake Nona West Opens This Summer: A VillageWalk Resident's Field Guide

July 23, 2026

If you live in VillageWalk at Lake Nona, the 54-acre construction site you have been driving past on Lake Nona Boulevard has a name, a tenant list, and a calendar. The short version: between mid-May and the end of summer, the closest big-box run and the closest bookstore stop being a Narcoossee Road commute. The longer version is more interesting, because the sequence of openings quietly reshapes what a normal Saturday looks like from inside our neighborhood.

Here is what to expect, in the order it lands.

The calendar you will actually live by

Tavistock Development Company gave media a first look on April 28, 2026, and confirmed a phased schedule that runs through summer and into 2027. After more than a year of construction, Lake Nona West is welcoming its first shoppers this month, and a wave of openings is set to roll through summer and into 2027.

Homesense is slated for a mid-May opening with Barnes & Noble opening mid-June and Total Wine & More about a week later. Nordstrom Rack is in the midst of building out an estimated 25,893-square-foot space that will open in August, and Dick's Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, and Target are expected to open late July. The Barnes & Noble date is the most precise on the list: Barnes & Noble is pleased to announce the opening of its new Lake Nona bookstore on Wednesday, June 10th in southeast Orlando, with local author Kristen Harmel cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her novel, The Stolen Life of Colette Marceau.

Smaller signings that filled in over spring include Drybar, Just Salad, Gloss Nail Co., and Kilwins Ice Cream, plus Sephora and JETSET Pilates from the earlier wave. Tavistock Development Company has announced five new retail tenants and a large-scale public art program for Lake Nona West, a 405,000-square-foot retail center under development on 54 acres in Orlando's Lake Nona community. The walkable center is located along Lake Nona Boulevard, east of Boggy Creek Road, and is scheduled to open in May 2026. The new tenants total 8,078 square feet and include Drybar, Just Salad, Gloss Nail Co., and Kilwins Ice Cream.

Why Target's late-July arrival is the tell

Any retail center opening on this scale is a story, but Target is the piece that changes household routines. Target is expected to be among the most popular tenants. "It's Lake Nona's 30th anniversary this year and I can tell you, residents have been asking for a Target for almost that long," said Blakley.

Think about what that admission implies. For three decades, a community that Tavistock itself markets as one of the most planned neighborhoods in the country has had residents driving out for a store most Americans consider table stakes. The late-July opening is not a new option layered onto existing ones. It is the first time a basics run from VillageWalk becomes a walk-in-walk-out errand instead of a trip.

For scale: the anchor footprint alone is a 149,247-square-foot Target, and it's the second-largest retail project built in Florida in the last five years.

Cañonita, and the shift in what "dinner nearby" means

The most locally interesting tenant is not the anchor. It is the restaurant. Dining options at Lake Nona West will also include Cañonita: an elevated Mexican culinary concept from Tavistock Restaurant Collection. The location will be the first for the Mexican concept outside its original venue in The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. Many of the Las Vegas restaurant's menu items and interior finishes are expected to be used for the Lake Nona location.

The scale of the buildout is worth registering. Cañonita is planned inside a 9,321-square-foot building at Lake Nona West. City permit-related records show a $4.5 million interior buildout tied to the restaurant. For comparison, that investment is even larger than the $3.5 million reportedly being spent on a new Seasons 52 location in Winter Garden.

Two things are quietly true here. First, the Boxi Park walk-up you already know is staying open. The Jared Jones team coverage notes that while there is another restaurant nearby called Cañonita Street Taqueria, at Boxi Park, Cañonita at Lake Nona West will not be replacing it. Cañonita Street Taqueria will continue to operate. Second, the full-service version is a Q4 arrival, not a summer one. Just off the activity plaza, diners will be able to enter Tavistock's new Cañonita Mexican restaurant, which is nearly 8,000 square feet and slated to open in the Fourth Quarter.

Read as a signal, this means Tavistock is willing to import a Venetian-tier concept to a suburban Orlando center. If it performs, the follow-on restaurant signings will not look like a typical Publix-adjacent lineup.

The murals are the wayfinding

There are 30 of them, and they were designed with the property, not applied to it. The public art program, led by Chalk & Brush, will bring 30 murals to Lake Nona West, reflecting the character, natural landscape and evolving identity of the community. Founded by Cuban-born artist Cinthia "Cynno" Santos, the Miami-based studio is known for bold, graphic murals commissioned by brands like Spotify and Starbucks that often-become local landmarks.

Two are already photograph-ready. A large "Greetings from Lake Nona West" mural is already visible from Lake Nona Boulevard, and an inner courtyard is getting a "Wish You Were Here" wall designed to be the community's next great photo moment. If you have been watching the wall paint go up on your morning drive, that is the program.

One personal detail from the artist is worth knowing before you spot it. Muralist Cinthia Santos redesigned this wall mural to include an image of her Yorkie-Beagle mix, Bella. So she redesigned the mural with the smiling face and wagging tongue of Bella, her beloved Yorkie-Beagle mix who died last year just before she started the mural project.

The parts nobody is writing about, that you will use every week

Three practical items sit under the marketing copy and matter more to VillageWalk residents than any tenant announcement.

The roundabouts. Tavistock says crews have built two roundabouts in front of the plaza to keep traffic flowing on Lake Nona Boulevard, and they will offer Beep autonomous shuttle rides to help reduce traffic. If your normal drive-out takes you north on Lake Nona Boulevard, that circulation pattern is already live.

The Beep shuttle. Autonomous shuttle service on the corridor is the piece Tavistock is betting will absorb the "everyone comes here on Saturday" problem. Whether it does is an empirical question worth watching in August.

The EV charging hub. The center will also include shaded promenades, flexible gathering spaces, and a 20-stall Level 3 electric vehicle charging hub powered by Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging. Twenty Level 3 stalls is a serious number for a suburban lifestyle center, and it is the first meaningful public fast-charging cluster on this side of 417.

What actually changes on a VillageWalk Saturday

If you map the opening dates onto a household calendar, the summer plays out in three phases.

May through mid-June. Homesense is open. That is a single-purpose trip. Your Saturday looks the same.

Mid-June through mid-July. Barnes & Noble and Total Wine are running. This is the first window where a morning coffee, a browse, and a wine pickup can happen without leaving the immediate area. The Barnes & Noble café is inside the store's roughly 16,000 square feet.

Late July onward. Target and Dick's open the same week. This is the inflection. The trips that currently go to Narcoossee Road or the 417 corridor start collapsing into a single stop. Nordstrom Rack lands in August. Cañonita follows in Q4 and turns the same address into a dinner destination.

The neighborhood-level read is straightforward. Lake Nona has been marketing walkability for years while much of its daily errand economy sat elsewhere. This summer closes that gap for the VillageWalk side of the community specifically, because the geography works. Everything above sits at 6039 Lake Nona Blvd, Orlando, FL 32827, on the corridor you already use.

Worth watching after August: which second-wave restaurant signs first, whether the Beep shuttle actually pulls Saturday traffic off Lake Nona Boulevard, and how quickly the mid-block spaces flanking Cañonita fill in. A new-to-market, yet-to-be named breakfast and lunch concept will also be announced in the coming weeks.
